Morocco’s dogs cannot wait: IAWPC urges supporters to help challenge Infantino’s grip on FIFA

The International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition (IAWPC) is urging supporters to join an email campaign challenging Gianni Infantino’s continued leadership of FIFA, as dogs across Morocco continue to suffer and die ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

Through the Reboot FIFA campaign, supporters can contact their national football association and demand action over presidential term limits which campaigners argue should prevent Infantino from standing again.

We have repeatedly appealed to FIFA to intervene over the mass killing of Morocco’s free-roaming dogs. Yet the killing continues and, according to evidence reaching our coalition, the situation has worsened.

We believe Infantino has shown no meaningful commitment to securing an end to this suffering. His failure to deliver effective action leaves us with the devastating impression that he is prepared to accept the deaths of dogs as Morocco prepares to co-host the tournament with Spain and Portugal.

As many as three million stray and owned dogs could lose their lives before the competition begins.

Behind that is puppies, nursing mothers, dogs cared for by local communities and much-loved companions. Their lives must never be treated as disposable in preparations for a sporting event.

Reboot FIFA’s email action gives our supporters another way to press for accountability. Its challenge centres on FIFA’s presidential term limits and the decision to exclude Infantino’s first period in office, from 2016 to 2019, from the three-term calculation.

Infantino was first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019 and 2023. Reboot FIFA argues that excluding his initial period in office breaches FIFA’s rules, and is asking national football associations to demand that those rules be enforced.

This is a separate campaign from the IAWPC’s work to protect Morocco’s dogs, but we are encouraging supporters to participate because we believe FIFA needs leadership willing to confront the suffering associated with preparations for its flagship tournament.

We need FIFA to use its influence to help secure those changes.

Please take part today.

Visit rebootfifa.com/email, select your country and follow the instructions to contact your national football association. The campaign provides a draft email and identifies the relevant association for the countries currently listed.

Then share the action with others and encourage them to join you.

Morocco’s dogs cannot speak at FIFA’s meetings or challenge its leadership. But we can raise our voices on their behalf.
