Help stop the killing of Morocco’s dogs
As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition (IAWPC) warns that up to 3 million dogs face being killed.
FIFA’s World Cup Bid Evaluation Report records Morocco’s assurance that “animal culling has been prohibited since August 2024”. Yet evidence gathered by the IAWPC shows that the killings continue. The coalition says this breaches Morocco’s commitments and is calling on FIFA to hold the authorities accountable.
Dogs who are loved and cared for by local people, including children, are among those caught up in the killings. The danger extends to people too. The IAWPC reports that children have been injured by dog shooters, including a six-year-old child who lost an eye in April 2026.
Imagine your own dog being dragged away, terrified, and killed. Imagine a child watching the dog they love being shot in the street. Imagine that child being injured too.
The consequences reach beyond animal suffering. The IAWPC warns that indiscriminate killing undermines efforts to control rabies, putting communities at further risk.
The IAWPC, a coalition of 84 respected animal welfare organisations worldwide, has received evidence from Moroccan citizens of dogs being shot, poisoned, brutally captured and held in appalling conditions. We are campaigning to end these killings, which we link to efforts to clear the streets ahead of the tournament.
You can help, whoever you are
You do not need to be famous, work in football or have a large social media following to make a difference. Every signature, email and shared message can help put pressure on those with the power to stop this cruelty.
By speaking up, you can help these dogs, the people who care for them and the children witnessing this violence be heard. Whether you are an animal lover, a parent, a football supporter or simply someone who believes this suffering must stop, your voice matters.
What we are calling for
- An immediate end to the killing and inhumane treatment of free-roaming dogs.
- A properly funded, nationwide Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return programme, delivered with animal welfare experts, to humanely manage the dog population and build protection against rabies.
- An end to authority-run kill shelters, with food, clean water, veterinary treatment and humane care for every dog held in a pound.
- FIFA to uphold the animal protection commitments recorded in Morocco’s World Cup bid and demand an end to the killings.
What you can do
Tell your friends, family, colleagues and community about the campaign. Ask your elected representatives to raise it with FIFA and the Moroccan authorities.
Share a social media post, record a short video or speak publicly. If you belong to a community group, workplace network, school, university or football supporters’ group, encourage others to get involved.
You can also contact FIFA and the Moroccan authorities directly using the email addresses below.

Suggested social media post
I stand with the IAWPC and its Save Morocco’s Dogs campaign. Dogs are being shot, poisoned and cruelly captured as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup. These include dogs loved by local people and children.
FIFA’s bid report records an assurance that “animal culling has been prohibited since August 2024”. The IAWPC’s evidence shows the killings continue. FIFA must act.
I call on FIFA and the Moroccan authorities to stop the killings and introduce a properly funded, nationwide Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return programme.
You do not need to work in football or have thousands of followers to help. Every voice matters.
No dog should suffer for football. Please sign the petition, share this message and join me in speaking up.
